Hydrogen projects

One of the ways to achieve the European climate goals is, among other things, the use of hydrogen in the energy sector, transport, and industry. NET4GAS has actively participated in many international initiatives exploring the possibilities of utilizing new gases, particularly hydrogen. Due to its location in the centre of Europe, the Czech Republic can utilize four out of the six main transmission corridors within Europe for hydrogen import. These are the North Africa & Southern Europe corridor, the Scandinavian-Baltic corridor, and the corridors from Eastern and Southeastern Europe. An overview of all hydrogen corridors, albeit in a slightly different structure that considers the corridors from Southeastern and Eastern Europe as a single corridor, is provided in the European Hydrogen Backbone study (EHB; available for download here).

NET4GAS plays a key role in achieving the goals of the updated Hydrogen Strategy of the Czech Republic (2024). A part of the existing infrastructure operated by NET4GAS can be transformed to hydrogen without the need to build a new transmission system. In this regard, NET4GAS is preparing three hydrogen projects, which represent so-called “repurposing” of one line of three parallel pipelines on each of the backbone branches.
