Volunteer firefighters 2018 contest has begun again under main partnership of NET4GAS

06.04.2018

From Friday, 6 April 2018, through 15 July 2018, volunteer fire units and corps from across the entire Czech Republic can write in to register their emergency responses or their general activities for the Volunteer Firefighters of the Year contest, the eighth instalment of which has just gotten underway. All submissions will be reviewed and evaluated individually by the members of an expert jury. The finalists can look forward to a prestigious reward – a firefighter helmet made of glass, various material prizes, and funds for the purchase of new firefighting equipment needed for their continued work. All told, thirty shortlisted volunteer fire brigades will receive prizes in the total value of CZK 2.4 million, courtesy of the partners of the contest.

This year's contest will draw the requisite energy from GridServices, a member of innogy group, which is teaming up with the award as its general partner for the eighth year in a row. "In their daily work (especially when it comes to restoring supplies after a breakdown of services), our field technicians work side by side with volunteer firefighting units. Their help is often of inestimable value, and we are thus truly excited to be able to be a partner of the contest, and thus express our respect for the daily selfless work of these people," says Pavel Káčer, Executive Officer of GridServices, as a representative of the general partner of the contest and member of the expert jury.

Radek Benčík, COO of NET4GAS and member of the expert jury, also has words of praise for the collaboration with volunteer firefighters, saying: "Firefighters are important partners of ours when it comes to ensuring the security of gas transmission. It is thus only natural for us to give them continued support, and thus to also express our recognition and gratitude for their work and their commitment. Acting as the main partner of the contest (already for the fifth year – a special anniversary!) is one way in which to realize this support."

The main partners of the Volunteer Firefighters of 2018 contest are NET4GAS, Lesy ČR, ČEZ, Česká pošta, Ford Motor Company, Andreas Stihl, DCom, and ČEPS. The partnership structure is rounded out by GINA, Brnocar, the Health Insurance Company of the Minister of the Interior, and Techsport. "Aside from the volunteer firefighters themselves, we also need to thank the partners of our contest. It is thanks to them that we are able to give recognition, for the eighth time already, to the fifteen most professional emergency responses by municipal units and to fifteen example-setting motivational events organized by fire brigades and volunteer firefighting corps," stresses Major General Drahoslav Ryba, Director General of the Czech Firefighting and Rescue Corps and chairman of the expert jury. Alongside Major General Ryba, others on the jury who will evaluate the submissions are the deputy chairman of the jury – Brigadier General Slavomír Bell, who is Deputy Director General of the Czech Firefighting and Rescue Corps – and other members from the ranks of professional firefighters, as well as representatives of three volunteer firefighting associations and two representatives of the partners of the contest.

From April to August, the organizers will attend over 50 events organized by volunteer firefighters across the country. The contest will put up its own stand at the "Roadshow with Radio Impuls", where people can find out details about the course of the awards, and check out some of the material prizes. A list of venues can be found on the website of the contest, www.adhr.cz. The festive announcement of the results will take place in November, in the presence of the cameras of Czech Television.
