Closer to Regions: Voluntary firemen awarded

21.11.2019

A total of fifty voluntary fire brigade units and corps from across the Czech Republic were awarded the Voluntary Firefighters of the Year 2019 on Wednesday, November 20, nominated by the expert jury. This happened at the ceremonial announcement of the 9th year of this contest in Brno. At the first place, the finalists won a life-size glass fire helmet, a symbol of the contest and a unique work of Czech glassmakers. At the same time, volunteer firefighters received financial and material donations worth over CZK 1,800,000 to support their further activities.

One of the objectives of the contest is to raise public awareness of the irreplaceability of 360,000 active members of volunteer firefighters within the integrated rescue system. Thanks to the regional scope, it is they who come first and deal with the first interventions in fires, traffic accidents or floods. "The variety of stories in which fire brigades and troops play an indispensable role is truly diverse. In fires, accidents and other unfortunate events, in the education and active life of children and youth, in local community events, or in ensuring safe and reliable transmission of natural gas. In the contest, we highlight some of them, but through them we express our appreciation to all," said Radek Benčík, COO of NET4GAS and a member of the expert jury.
