History
NET4GAS (previously known as RWE Transgas Net) was established on January 1, 2006.
NET4GAS was formed when the market in natural gas was opened up in the Czech Republic.
On the basis of the requirements laid down in a European Union directive and an amendment to the Energy Act, on January 1, 2006, RWE Transgas stopped operating as a transmission system operator and split into two legally autonomous and independently functioning entities. The transmission system is now operated by NET4GAS, while RWE Transgas acts solely as a gas trader. The legal unbundling of the company ensures equal access for all importers and traders on the natural gas market.
NET4GAS is responsible for the international transit of natural gas through the Czech Republic to countries in Western Europe and the national transport of gas for the Czech Republic’s internal requirements.
The company was set up with a view to providing operations in which all third parties would enjoy the same conditions of access to the gas transmission system in the Czech Republic. New standards governing the transmission system operator and its customer service were established, and a new way of applying for the reservation of transmission capacities or for information about capacity availability was introduced. In this respect, the Compliance Program was launched to guarantee non-discriminatory access to the transmission system and the disclosure of information in a non-discriminatory manner.
